Budget Wars and Culture Wars: What the 2012 Election Means for the American Future
Ross Douthat is a columnist for The New York Times op-ed page and author of Privilege: Harvard and the Education of the Ruling Class and Grand New Party: How Republicans Can Win the Working Class and Save the American Dream. Before joining the Times he was a senior editor for The Atlantic. Douthat is the film critic for National Review, and he has appeared regularly on television, including Charlie Rose, PBS Newshour, Real Time, and The Colbert Report. Each year the Miller lecture invites an expert who has overcome the dichotomy of faith and life and risen to greatness precisely by embodying the values of the Catholic Intellectual tradition. The lecture is named in honor of former University of St. Thomas president Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB, who was appointed as the archbishop of Vancouver in January 2008. This lecture is made possible through the generosity of the John W. and Alida M. Considine Foundation. The event is sponsored by the UST Catholic Studies Program. Speaker: Ross Douthat Date: September 19, 2012 Location: Jones Hall Length: 96 mins
