A Night of Tangos: The Jorge Retamoza Trio
A group shaped by Argentine musicians which, taking to the tango as the first expression, incorporates gestures of the jazz and the contemporary music. The result is a music called style "post-Piazzolla" or “New Tango," which establishes this way a continuity to the work begun by Astor Piazzolla. The repertoire is mainly original music, some arrangements of tunes of Piazzolla and Rovira and a few tango standards that the group uses as vehicles for improvisation. The group plays regularly in Argentina and South America, appearing in festivals of tango and jazz – Mar del Jazz, Jazz y Otras Músicas, Jóven Guardia del Tango, Tango del Siglo 21, Tango 06, Buenos Aires Festival de Tango, National Library Hall, National Fund of The Arts, Cultural Centers, MAC, and TV shows. They have also toured Spain (Barcelona, Reus, Coruña, Santiago, Lugo, Vigo, Pontevedra, Madrid). Date: November 13, 2012 Location: Cullen Hall Length: 67 mins
